Serving Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows since 1978 Saturday, January 13, 2007 THE NEWS 49 BY LAURA JANSEN Staff Reporter The Pitt Meadows Marauders only gave up the lead they established early on as they defeated the Westview Wildcats 47-21 Thursday evening. The two junior basketball teams went head to head in the Westview gym, with the Pitt squad keeping play in the zone for much of the rst half. Westview took a brief lead when, after receiving an in-bounded ball, point guard Morgan Meys sunk a three-pointer in the rst quarter, bringing Westview ahead 3-2. From there on, it was game. The Marauders drew further and further from their Westview coun- terparts, who had a small roster of 10, during the rst half of the game.

By half-time Pitt was enjoying a 32-7 lead. While they maintained their lead throughout, the Westview squad began to pick up speed, narrowing the gap increasingly throughout the second half. They kept pace with the Maraud- ers girls during the third quarter, scoring 10 points to Pitt 12. The nal quarter saw a push from both sides, a back-and-forth effort that yielded minimal scoring for each. The rst points come until more than a minute into the fourth, scored by Laura Davis.

Meys scored nal non- foul shot basket of the game after backing her way through the key to- wards the net.
